Pamplin AR

During the summer of 2024, I worked as a 3D Artist Research Assistant on a grant-funded project at Virginia Tech to support the development of an augmented reality (AR) experience for Pamplin Historical Park in Petersburg, VA. The project focused on creating educational material for park visitors about the Civil War and about the park itself.

I was responsible for modeling and texturing a collection of objects centered around daily life at the park and trench warfare, including domestic kitchen tools and battlefield elements. Assets I created include a broom, cooking pot, fire pit, cookbook, as well as modified and refined models for chevaux de frise, gabions, and a headlog.

This project was funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and developed by an interdisciplinary team of artists, historians, computer scientists, and faculty across Virginia Tech.

Project Context

Pamplin Historical Park is a recognized US National Historic Landmark. The goal of this project was to use AR to enhance visitor understanding of the lived experience of enslaved peoples during the war, the structural components of Civil War trenches, and to learn more about the Petersburg Breakthrough Battlefield itself.
