About Sophia
I am a technical artist and photogrammetrist working at the intersection of 3D technology, preservation, art, and digital display. I hold a BFA in Creative Technologies from Virginia Tech.
My practice is built around testing the limits of digital realism, making the imagined seem not so unrealistic, and visualizing things that otherwise don’t exist in physical space. I believe digital tools are incredibly powerful, and that they have the potential to deepen our understanding of the world around us as a whole. I am primarily interested in using technology for research or preservation purposes, and using my skills to help make knowledge more accessible.
Thank you for taking the time to explore my website! Please feel free to contact me or reach out on LinkedIn.

Digital Libraries and Preservation (DLP) 3D Digitization Lab
The Digital Libraries and Preservation 3D Digitization (DLP) Lab at Virginia Tech produces high-fidelity 3D models for research, preservation, and teaching. The lab primarily uses Agisoft Metashape, Substance 3D Painter, ZBrush, and Autodesk Maya in its workflows. The DLP strives to capture objects as true to life as possible while preparing models to be both visually accurate and lightweight, and optimized for use in game engines, rendering software, or web-based viewers.

Applied Research in Immersive Experiences and Simulations (ARIES) Lab
The Applied Research in Immersive Experiences and Simulations (ARIES) Lab is a research lab on Virginia Tech’s campus that employs students to create projects using game engines, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality. Projects are sourced from real clients or from grants, and each project is made up of an interdisciplinary team of students. Here, students learn how to use industry-standard software, such as Unreal Engine, Autodesk Maya, Substance Painter, ZBrush, and Unreal Engine. Students also learn how to use cutting edge tools and methods, like photogrammetry, gaussian splats, and laser scanning.
