Lab Work

I currently work as a 3D Artist at the 3D Digitization Lab (official abbreviation DLP) at Virginia Tech. In our lab, we create high-quality 3D models of objects using Agisoft Metashape and process them in Substance Painter to capture their surface details and material properties.

I have collaborated with a wide range of on- and off-campus clients, including the VT Library Archives (digitizing commemorative eggs and signed sports memorabilia), the Department of Geosciences (rocks and geode collections), the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (educational models), and the Art & Architecture Library (digitization of rare chairs). Upcoming projects include digitizing a llama stomach preserved through a patented soft tissue method.

In addition to digitization, I developed custom tools to improve our capture process. Using Blender, I designed and 3D-printed wedge supports for stabilizing asymmetrical objects on turntables. Covered in black felt to absorb light, these wedges allow for stable captures and have been especially effective with asymmetrical objects.
